Cats & Kittens

Cats & Kittens

Most owners don’t routinely look in their animal’s mouths; it can be very difficult to get a really good look, especially towards the back of the mouth (where many dental issues can occur). Therefore we recommend you see your vet for regular dental checks, so that any problems can be quickly identified.

At Vets4Pets we have already seen a number of snake bite cases in both cats and dogs across the northern suburbs, including Angle Vale, Greenwith and Golden Grove. Brown and tiger snakes make up the majority of bites in South Australia. Snake bites are far more common in dogs and cats than in people; largely because our four legged companions don’t know to avoid them and think they are very exciting playthings!

Summer and swimming pools go hand in hand. Just as we get hot our pets are also tempted to have a dip when they are feeling too hot. While most of them are keen to go for a swim when the other family members are in the pool, some get more adventurous and get in water while we are away from home.

Obesity is becoming an epidemic in the developed world and our pets are following the trend. While general awareness of this problem is there, it can be much harder to do something about it in our pets.

Cat Bite abscesses are one of the most common problems we see at all our Vets4pets practices. Unless kept 100% indoors, many cats will encounter this problem. Cats are very territorial animals and intruders are not very welcome. Sometimes it may not be your cat picking the fight, there is always a local bully around waiting to pounce.

Indoor marking behaviour can be confused with a breakdown in toileting behaviour. Territorial marking by urine spraying which usually occurs against vertical objects such as chairs or walls and can be distinguished from urinating where a greater volume of liquid is deposited from a squatting position by both male and female cats.

If you're going away, Vets4Pets offers a ‘home away from home’ boarding service for your pet ensuring only the best quality accommodation and professional care for your dog, cat, bird, rabbit, amphibian or reptile in comfortable, secure and peaceful surroundings.

Our pets are living longer, just like us. As a result of living longer our pets experience different problems such as increased need for dental treatment and more old age diseases such as dementia and arthritis. Arthritis is a medical term which means inflammation of the joint. Osteoarthriritis is chronic arthritis often referred to as degenerative joint disease or DJD.

Atopy is the most common skin disease we see in our veterinary practices. It is seen more often in dogs and can be manifested with different symptoms. It tends to be a lifelong problem which is always frustrating to treat and needs constant monitoring and adjustment in treatment.

Ear mites are often seen in puppies and kittens. Why is it important to know that your dog to cat has ear mites and what kind of damage do they cause?

What our clients say about Vets4Pets

G'day! Just wanted to personally say Thank you for the care you took in accessing our four legged boy; we knew he was not coming home with us, but my husband and I REALLY and genuinely appreciate everyone's caring and support along the way!
P.S. The Forget me Not seeds were VERY touching indeed! www.yelp.com.au/biz/golden-grove-veterinary-hospital-valley-view#hrid:ufnPlIJzpjZ_A-J7TuIJpg
I have been going to Golden Grove Veterinary Hospital for many a year!
Recently, sadly, I left with a tear!
As the last of our animals has to be put to sleep; knew it was the logical and humane thing to do!
From the ladies at reception (who attended my rather panicky phone call) to the vets upon entering, everyone demonstrates their caring behavior as if the pets were their own.
After a careful and thorough exam, the vet calmly explained the situation and options available too!
Our animal and I both knew!
He would not be returning that day, which was the right thing to do!
I know Golden Grove Veterinary Hospital is in the business of making money, but it is the little things that mean A LOT; ESPECIALLY when one is grieving the loss of their pet (and last) too!
A card arrived in the mail, was perfect timing on the day!
It expressed what most people cannot say!
It DID bring comfort and there was another bonus (which REALLY meant a lot)
Enclosed in the card were seeds Forget Me Not!
Anyone who knows me, KNOWS I am a sooky la-la when it comes to animals, TRUE!
But I especially would like to share this poem about "A pet so special...can never be forgotten.
Losing a pet is saying goodbye to a good friend, but memories of kindness, love and companionship are with you forever.
I hope you enjoy too!
I HIGHLY recommend Golden Grove Veterinary Hospital for everything ALL of their staff does do!
