The Golden Grove Vet Team

Dr Virginia Hart B.V.Sc, M.V.S, M.A.C.V.Sc - Vet and Hospital Manager

Dr Hart joined Vets4Pets in 1986 and has played a pivotal role in the establishment and performance of the medical and surgical team at the Golden Grove Veterinary Hospital, which caters to local residents in Tea Tree Gully, Newton, Modbury Heights and surrounds.

Dr Hart has studied extensively and attained many qualifications, including a Masters degree in veterinary science. She loves and cares for all animals but has a special place in her heart for felines.

When she's not at work Virginia is happily devoted to her four boys and numerous cats and dogs. In her rare private moments, she may be found enjoying test cricket at the Adelaide Oval.

Dr Brett Hodgkin B.V.Sc, B.V.M.S - Vet and V4P's Managing Director

Brett is the Managing Director of the Vets4Pets business. He is a Golden Grove Vet who also coordinates the weekend and after-hours emergency and trauma care service.

Dr Hodgkin grew up in Adelaide's north-eastern suburbs before heading to Western Australia to complete his training. He worked in a mixed veterinary practice in south-western Australia, then a four-year 'James Herriot-like' stint in the UK before joining Vets4Pets in 1994.

Outside work Brett can be found on a golf course, fishing, enjoying a good South Australian red wine or supporting Port Power.

Dr Ellene Rossouw B.V.Sc. -  Vet and 24 Hour Emergency Centre Manager

Ellene originates from Pretoria, South Africa. After graduating from Onderstepoort in 1992 she worked for the military as a small animal and equine vet until 2000. After doing many small animal locums during her time in the army, Ellene chose to move into full-time small animal practice medicine in 2001.

She moved to Australia in 2003 and now has 3 lovely children who keep her busy after hours.

Dr Cheryl Lordan B.V.Sc.

Dr. Cheryl Lordan was born and raised in Melbourne. She moved to Adelaide shortly after graduating from the University of Melbourne in 2006 and has since been focussed on small animals with a strong interest in internal medicine and diagnostic imaging, especially ultrasound. She is often found ‘out the back’ at our Golden Grove Hospital assessing and taking care of the hospital patients. Cheryl is one of our feline fanatic vets, she loves anything to do with cats and tries her best to make their visits as stress free and comfortable as possible.

Cheryl spends her spare time at the gym, snowboarding, gardening, cooking, sewing or doting on her much loved and spoiled pets; four domestic short hair cats; Blackie, Vex, Squeak and Hatt as well as her horse George.

Dr Kylie Wray B.V.Sc., M.V.S.

Kylie was born and raised in Zimbabwe. She attended the University of Zimbabwe in 1992 where she completed her Bachelor Degree in Veterinary Science in 1994. In 1995 she travelled to the UK where she sat her RCVS exams. From there she worked mainly in Zimbabwe but also did locum work in the UK until 2000. Dr Wray then went to Namibia for two and a half years where she became involved in wildlife work.

She obtained her Masters Degree in Small Animal Medicine in 2007.

Dr Rachael O’Leary B.V.Sc Hons

Rachael is a born and bred Adelaide girl. She graduated with honours from Melbourne Uni in 2010 and moved to our Nation's Capital where she worked as a small animal vet for two years. However the yearning for the moos and neighs of large animals saw her next move to a country practice in NSW. It was here that she & husband Troy adopted their little cat 'Mouse' and her Golden Retriever brother 'Archer'. Following a wonderful couple of years in the country, she then worked as a locum vet around Australia before returning home to us in Adelaide. Rachael has a keen interest in internal medicine and ultrasound as well as treating our beautiful Australian wildlife.

Dr Anton Simic D.V.M

Dr Simic was born in the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He obtained his Bachelor Degree in Veterinary Medicine in Zagreb, Croatia. Anton worked in a mixed practice clinic from 2000 to 2004 after which he took a position at Vets4Pets. Anton's special areas of interests are small animal medicine and surgery. When off duty he enjoys outdoor activities such as bush walking and cycling.

Dr Erika Sullivan D.V.M

Dr. Erika Sullivan graduated with honours from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2005 in Canada. Erika’s special interests in small animal veterinary practice includes emergency medicine, geriatrics, feline medicine, ophthalmology, exotic and wildlife species, and acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. Erika merges her interest in travel to also be of use volunteering abroad at animal sanctuaries with goals similar to her own. She has worked with orphaned Western Lowland Gorillas in Gabon, abused Asian elephants in Thailand, managed a dog shelter with abused homeless dogs in Northern Thailand, and helped organizations in India. Outside of work, Erika enjoys scuba diving, motorcycling, playing baseball, vegetarian cooking, and sunshine. Erika moved to Australia in March 2014 and will be the overnight veterinary emergency clinician at our Golden Grove Emergency Clinic.

Dr Zoe Heinsen B.Sc, B.Vet Med

Zöe was born in England and graduated from The Royal Veterinary College, London, in 2006. She started her professional life working in rural Wales as a mixed practitioner for 5 years, before moving home to Kent. Here she took a position as Head Vet at one of two branch practices attached to a hospital, switching to small animal work only. In 2015 Zöe moved to Australia and started working for Vets4Pets in June. She can mostly be found at our Golden Grove Hospital managing and caring for our inpatients, though occasionally at one of our branches. She enjoys challenging medical cases, as well as caring for our ageing pet population.

Outside of work Zöe loves to explore the Australian countryside on foot and by bike, as well as visiting wineries and restaurants.
